Actually, there is a way to use logout hooks, (and this would include a
shutdown too). <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18752>.
You'd have to call the scripts from the shell environment, and dealing with
it can be tricky, but right now, that's the best way to do this.
