Remember that the current Mac OS X system is derived from the NeXT
systems so a lot of things are holdovers from NeXT. If you look at the
Cocoa libraries they are all like "NSString" or "NSData". The NS
stands for NeXT Step, the system that Cocoa was mainly developed on.
