From fact-index.com:
<http://www.fact-index.com/c/co/cocoa__software_.html>
"The .nib suffix originally stood for NeXT Interface Builder, but conventional wisdom now holds that .nib doesn't stand for anything; it is now said to refer to the word nib, meaning the sharpened point of a quill or pen."

Remember that the current Mac OS X system is derived from the NeXT systems so a lot of things are holdovers from NeXT. If you look at the Cocoa libraries they are all like "NSString" or "NSData". The NS stands for NeXT Step, the system that Cocoa was mainly developed on.

I am playing around with AppleScrit Studio, and it seems that NIB files are allways related to the grafical interface of your app.

Please forgive for asking this simple one:

What is this small 3 letter word "NIB" stand for?

Whatever + interface + builder???
