Hi all,
I don't know who might be interested, but I occasionally hear people
complain about the script menu being slow, cluttered and generally
inadequate. The following technique will make it into 'Something Good'.
1. Create a 'Scripts' folder in the /Library folder if it doesn't exist.
2. Create a 'Scripts' folder in the /Users/username/Library folder if
it doesn't exist.
3. If you have scripts or Folders of scripts in the
/Users/username/Library/Scripts folder then relocate them to the
/Library/Scripts folder. If you have scripts that you always want to
appear in the menu then put them in /Users/username/Library/Scripts.
4. Place a single folder named 'Applications' in the
/Users/username/Library/Scripts/ folder.
5. Place an alias of each folder of scripts that are specific to one
application i.e. 'Mail Scripts' or 'Safari Scripts' into the
/Users/username/Library/Scripts/Applications folder
6. Rename the aliases to exactly match the name ( sans extension ) of
the Application they are for i.e. 'Mail' or 'Safari'
7. Under the Scripts Menu, select 'Hide Library Scripts'.
Now you'll find the Scripts Menu to be fast, specific to the
application that you're in and generally cool. If you want to execute a
script for another app via this menu then toggle the ' * Library
Scripts' temporarily.
I hope this decreases your net entropy level,
The other Paul
