Setting icon programmatically

  • Subject: Setting icon programmatically
  • From: Norman Cohen <email@hidden>

The other day, a member of this list posted a request for a method to programmatically set the icon for a file or folder. I've deleted the original e-mail, or I'd give appropriate attribution.

I downloaded some command line tools called osxutils version 1.4 that include these two tools:

seticon
- Set the icon of Mac OS X files/folders

geticon
- Get the icon of Mac OS X files/folders

I imagine that an Applescript do shell script with these utilities would provide the requested functionality. OSXUtils is available at versiontracker and macupdate. The sourceforge home page is http://osxutils.sourceforge.net
