Yes. But for the single user machine it works fine as a "startup" script.

AppleScripts saved as applications work fine. But be careful with aliases when you drag an item in. I was very careful to create an alias to my AppleScript the first time and I placed that in the startup items area as though it were going into StartupDisk:System Folder:Startup items on classic. It works not. You drag the actual AppleScript APPL into the startup area but it doesn't go anywhere. I think OS neXt makes an alias or something equivalent at that time.
