This works for me:
tell application "Finder" of machine "eppc://Gnarlodious-TiBook.local" to
beep
The disk is already mounted AFP and Remote Apple Events is enabled in the
Sharing prefpanel. I also have "Flash Screen " enabled in the Universal
Access prefpanel "Hearing" tab for added verification.
