I bundled a script that toggles just the sidebar into the KeySeer package
(http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/Keyseer.dmg)
but you have to have Extra Suites.

If you want to do such stuff with a keyboard shortcut, I'd recommend getting
some of the scripts from the KeySeer package then using Spark to trigger
them. Spark (http://chezjd.free.fr/Creation/) runs circles around KeySeer
but the current version doesn't include examples.
