It should be. It's nothing particularly new. Differing terminals is a
problem which Unix had to solve early on...paper teletypes and old style
character generator (two forms) CRTs and bit-mapped CRTs, and X-Windows on
the latter, just don't behave the same, and code needs an easy way to work
regardless.
