How do you get that? There's no mention of Applescript on that page.

That's the WWDC keynote address by Steve et al.
Sal Soghoian gives the Automator demo, which is a clue in and of itself. :)
I presume it's Apple events underneath, with something like Photoshop's
actions palette on top. It's not at all clear whether applescript gets a
look in.
It will be clear when you watch the keynote address.
The question is: Can we make our own actions, or are we restricted to
building the higher level 'workflows' from the built-in ones?
They're handing out an SDK at the conference. Which makes me fear
that only C programmers would be able to make actions.
Presumably these actions are application-specific, in the manner of
'dictionaries'. That means that Automator is only as useful as the third
party developers will allow it to become.
It does look that way. That elitist "SDK" acronym keeps popping up. :/
