This can actually be accomplished in a variety of ways...
'Historically', there have been any number of methods posited.
Few have expressed interest or support for any of those offered.
Is there a renewed interest in local applications?
An HTML / JavaScript front end for most of what you might like to do in
AS on a Mac OS?
It _might_ be possible.
