At 08:53a -0600 03/09/2004, John Adam Bloom didst inscribe upon an electronic papyrus:

No SPOD here either, running 2.2.6. A brief look at Omni site indicates they have fixed the likely cause. From their FAQ:
------
Every time I open a document in OmniOutliner, my computer connects to the internet. Why is this? Is my privacy being compromised?

When we create a column we create a unique object identifier. We get the ip address to help create it, but the method we used also gets the hostname (which we don't really need), and which we soon discovered has the side effect of firing up an internet connection. No information ever actually leaves your computer, though. Sorry about the confusion.

Hmm. I'm running 1.2, what came bundled with OS X.
I tried a demo of something like 2.1.1, but since it was a demo I couldn't get much testing out of it and don't remember much.

At 11:06a -0500 03/09/2004, Graff didst inscribe upon an electronic papyrus:

[...] the Beachball. Yeah, the programs do tend towards that a bit more than the usual Mac OS X application but they have come pretty far and don't do it as much any more.

Well that's good to hear.
But I also *hate* Omni's Web site. It's framed to kingdom come. (Now whenever I see an Omni URL ending in a slash, I quickly append "content.html" to skip past all the crap. [I think that was it; haven't been there in ages.]). And a framed Web site is another thing which makes me dismiss a company's products.

For outlining I've recently become partial to Vincent Jalby's iNotePad <http://www.vojousoftware.com/products.html#inotepad>.
