This was very much my take. Except I'd have a day, a month and a year field (globals I guess) which I'd populate as appropriate - and then have an FMP script which simply casts these values to an FMP date and drops it into the appropriate date field. Gives me more flexibility within FMP with respect to users setting the field and, by copying the FMP script, I can target any date field with a simple mod.

It'll slow things down a bit though.
