It can be better than prefs files. Prefs files are harder to script, make
it harder to distribute a script preset to some settings, don't allow
multiple copies of a script with different settings
While I see your point, and in fact I have used properties for
precisely that purpose, I maintain that they are just a convenience,
as the same functionality can be accomplished without them (just not
nearly as cleanly).
