The Gold Standard for UPS management is PowerGuardian, free demo available
here: <http://www.powerguardian.com/>. It was recently upgraded for Panther.

You can set it to run an AppleScript in response to many events emanating
from your UPS, including power failure, battery low, power returned, etc.

It supports a great many UPS's, both USB and serial.
