Okay, yes, I'm sad. Saturday morning, beautiful day, I'm reading technotes.
Thank you. Dear god, thank you all. This should be part of that annoying
message that pops up the first time you start Xcode. Well, maybe not the
whole technote, but this bit:
" Scriptability is the ability of your application to be controlled by a
script - that is, a program - rather than a person armed with a keyboard and
mouse. By making your application scriptable, users can customize it, tie it
into automated workflows, and generally make it more useful to themselves in
ways that were too specific for you to bother with, or that you never even
imagined in the first place."
That right there is what all Mac developers need to read until they get it.
It should be tattoed on the inside eyelids of the Apple Pro Apps team. It
should be printed on their cornflakes.
I'm really sure that the people who made the X-10 controller software
scriptable never imagined Andy Ihnatko using it to control a Darth Vader
piggy bank so that his cat stayed the hell off of his laser printer.
There's so many cool things that will never be done with non-scriptable
apps.
If I had the money, I'd hire skywriters.
