Rick,
For the timing part, if you do not want to get into dealing with
cron, please consider Script Timer, a shareware application that I
publish. It can do the kind of scheduling you want and much more.
It's specifically geared to AppleScript scripts, but can schedule
applications as well. Someone mentioned iDo Script Scheduler. Script
Timer has pretty much the same capabilities (and then some) for half
the price.
