Hello all:
This is my situation. I'm trying to make netboot work but I haven't
been lucky. On the server part I have MacOS X Server version 10.3.2, I
wont be applying the update for now. On my client side I am creating
the netboot disk images using CCC 2.3 form a 10.3.2 system. I modified
the system to my needs but nothing to radical (Just got rid of some
apps that were only taking up space). In the Preferences tab of CCC I
checked -Create disk image on target, and -Make it a NetBoot set. This
created my nbi folder which is following all the guidelines, not larger
than 2 Gs. It is actually a folder that is 1.46 GS in size and includes
the booter file, the mach.macosx file, the NBImageInfo.plist file and
the netboot.dmg.
I then copied the netboot.nbi folder to my server where I'm going to be
hosting the disk image. It is in a different physical drive (volume)
from where the main OS is installed. The path is
osx_files/library/netboot/netbootsp0/netboot.nbi. In workgroupmanager
it created 2 sharepoints and are NtbootSP0 and NetBootClient. In server
admin I have AFP, FTP, Netboot, NFS, Open Directory and Web turned on.
We already have a different DHCP server taking care of leasing IPs to
other systems so I can't turn on DHCP on my side. When I try to netboot
from a client machine going throught the system preferences>startup
disk preference pane, I can see the disk image on the network volume,
but when I hit restart the computer shuts down, I see the flashing icon
of a globe inside a grey square for about a minute or so and the I get
the folder with a question mark.
I have many questions but I guess the first one will be does somebody
have netboot running and does they have a similar setup? How did they
get it to work, using which tools? Should I turn DHCP on my server?
How does the client has to be setup? Does it has to be on DHCP or DHCP
with manual IP?
best regards
