refresh mail signatures?

  • Subject: refresh mail signatures?

Hello all,

I'm wondering if there is a way to force Mail to refresh its list of signatures--including both names and content--without quitting and restarting the application. You see, my solution to the age-old dilemma of creating a dynamic signature is this: set up a cron job to get some current info (recent items, what's playing in iTunes, output from fortune, etc.), process that info, and spit it out (with proper XML formatting) into the Signatures.plist file in the ~/Library/Mail folder. This works really well, except for the fact that Mail doesn't recognize the updated plist file until I restart the application. I was hoping that there was an AS (equivalently, shell script) way of doing this so I could just include that command in the script that updates the Signatures.plist file. (Footnote: other than this snag, I like this solution better than running a script to create a new mail message with some dynamic text as the signature because of replying/forwarding issues, among other things.)

Ideas?

Thanks in advance-
Eric
