script what is done with the PDF.

Thanks for pointing that PDF workflow menu out. It's pretty slick and I
hadn't seen it before. But it's not what to do with the PDF that I'm
after...it's the creation of the PDF to begin with. I just want to be able
to access the functionality of the "Save as PDF..." menu choice (without
involving the GUI).

Hmm, I don't know of any easy way to do this. You might be able to use this hint and create a PDF printer which would automatically save the file as a PDF when you used it to print:

But I don't think there is any easy answer to this.
