Names! Names! ;-)
Alzheimers! Alzheimers!
Because, unless I'm wrong, the script to be executed has by convention
to bear the same name as its enclosing folder.
Ahhh, yes! Thank you for that tip!
Here's the latest, which will still work after "permissions repair":

I would just like to somewhat emphasize my "Hmm..." part.
This was because I was not sure about the consequences of just replacing
the script by another one.
After all, SystemStarter's role is to register the availability of
various services (in the present case, just have a look at the
StartupParameters.plist companion file; it clearly states 'Provides =
("mDNSResponder");").
Not sure, but I believe your substitute script should at least return a
non zero status, so as to be sure the system doesn't mistakenly consider
the service's availability as granted.
That said, I would now like to emphasize the above "at least" part ;-)
Or is this just a false memory?
Not this time.
Well, kind of you :-)
This finally proves to be a matter of preference settings, contrary to
what I believed to remember :-(
Damn.
I included instructions for disabling iChat's Rend~ window.
Incidentally, I discovered an actual function for the Rend~ setting in
Directory Access. The setting does not disable Rend~ service from starting
but rather controls localnet polling by applications.
Huh? I'm really lost now...
Could you be more precise?
Axel
