Nit: Macs do not have "alt" keys; PCs do. Macs have "option" keys.
Period.

The key is labeled both alt and option on my keyboard (stock keyboard
that came with the iMac).

I've been told by some Europeans that (some?) Apple keyboards from recent
years have only "alt", not "option".

Indeed, on my UK keyboard I've got a "alt" key.
So YES, some Macs DO have "alt" keys!

The one that came with my US eMac has both 'alt' and 'option' printed on the keys.

Your eyes are weary from staring at the CRT. You feel sleepy. Notice how restful it is to watch the cursor blink. Close your eyes. The opinions stated above are yours. You cannot imagine why you ever felt otherwise.
