Save a new file

I must be missing something obvious, but in AppleScript, how does one tell an application (specifically BBEdit) to save a previously unsaved window into a file that doesn't yet exist? I.e. create a new file? I do not want to bring up a Save File dialog. I know the name of the file and the folder to pout it in. I just need to put it there, but I keep getting error messages about the file not existing. (The folder does exist). I can save over files that already exist just fine. It's only new files that cause problems. Surely somebody has a code fragment that does this? (though Google couldn't find one) :-( )
