I haven't been following this all day but thanks for all the replies.

curl is definetely the way I want to go with this - I'm trying to parse the xml files and my initial plan was to download them to a folder and chunk through them with AS, which after reading this thread seems like a tediously neanderthalish approach. (No offense to Neanderthals).
