Hey Paul or other more intelligent than me folks:
I can get this command to work in the terminal
curl -O http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Opinion.xml
but when I put in an AS it doesn't work:
do shell script "curl -O
http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Opinion.xml"
Is my syntax wrong?
It helps if you write it to a file somewhere or it languishes in
stdout. This works fine for me, but I notice that it doesn't open in
some text editors. I can view the contents fine in AlphaX though
do shell script "curl -O
http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Opinion.xml >
~/Desktop/Opinion.xml"
Didn't notice you have the -O switch already. So your original
syntax would have put your output into a file that is in the top
level of your boot volume, not on your desktop.
do shell script "curl -O
http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Opinion.xml"
to place in top level of boot volume. If you want to put it on the
desktop, drop the switch and just direct it.
do shell script "curl
http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Opinion.xml >
~/Desktop/Opinion.xml"
In any case, it works as you had it.
