I have also had luck playing sounds from the command line as long as they are aiff files... A 'do script' could be the AppleScript hook for that.

I would try telling Finder to open them in QuickTime Player, and then I would tell QuickTime Player to play them.


Note that it this works, you can also have Smile play them (Smile is that free AppleScript-based cool working environment).
