Most X10 interfaces use a serial or USB connection to a X10 transceiver
which sends the signals out over your power lines. There's nothing special
about the signals (they're well documented), what you need is some way to
get AppleScript to talk to the X10 interface.
Typically an X10-based application will do that part for you and its often
easier to tell one of them to toggle a device than it is to work out the
correct signals. Some of the products are, themselves, AppleScript-based and
have robust AppleScript dictionaries.
