Adding bookmarks to Safari

  • Subject: Adding bookmarks to Safari

Is there any way for a script to add some bookmarks to Safari? I suspect it might involve the use of JavaScript but I haven't found a way to do it in JavaScript either. If I can do it in JavaScript then I could try the "do JavaScript" command for Safari. Web searches have not brought forth any ideal solutions yet.

I found this message in the archives but it requires GUI scripting to be enabled which only works for X 10.3 and I need a solution that works for 10.1 through 10.3.

Another option is to directly modify Safari's bookmark file, which is in XML, but I really don't want to go down that road.
