Anyone scripting PowerPoint 2004?

Is anyone having any luck scripting PowerPoint 2004? I'd like to have a script to get a complete text count (the wordcount in Properties/Statistics is unreliable and doesn't provide a character count), but so far I haven't figured out how to get hold of any text at all. Help!
