The only way I can think of is to have the database open in FileMaker on another machine with remote data access on. Maybe there's a scripting addition that could access it through ODBC? I found some evidence that maybe there used to be one, but I couldn't find it. But it seems likely that you're not going to be able to access records in a FileMaker file without FileMaker running somewhere.
You can get data out of a FileMaker database without selecting and copying, though, so you can probably do it with the application hidden.

Hi List,
This is my problem:
I need to send emails to my trucking companies, asking them to send me a truck, and collect the goods I have waiting for my customers.
I have two data bases: MyCustomers.fp5 and TruckingCompanies.fp5
I created a layout with the only needed information to send the emails out, and use this code:
tell application "FileMaker Pro"
open file "Sistema Vendas:SistemaRutenium:TruckingCompanies.fp5"
go to layout "MySpecialLayout"
go to record ID "12"
copy
copy (the clipboard) to MyData
-- then send the data forward to my emailing code.
end tell
This forces Filemaker Pro to activate.
My questions:
1) Do I really have to open my database in order to get the data I need out?
2) Is there a way of reading the database without openning Filemaker Pro App?
Thanks,
Bernardo Höhl
