Actually it depends. What sort of data manipulation are we talking
about? The best tool for the job will greatly depend on what you
are trying to do. If you give us some sort of idea about that then
maybe we can help you.
Not saying it's the best, but the next release of Smile will have a
new "ASCII viewer" tool, for displaying and searching arbitrarily
large (ASCII) files. I can send it privately if someone is
interested. :-)
