Bernardo,

You've received a lot of answers but everyone seems to be ignoring -

set prefsPath to (path to preferences from user domain)

which is pure Applescript. There is a place for "do shell script" but this
isn't it.

This is available via the Standard Additions osax. See the "Path to" command.
