... you need to establish whether this application "is scriptable"
(i.e., whether it responds to applescript commands, and what they
need to be). The best way to test this is to drag the application
icon onto the ScriptEditor icon. The resulting window (if one opens)
will contain the application's command vocabular, or "Dictionary".
Very good and sound advise; however, 'Script Editor' v. 2.0 does not
always correctly identify an application that has a 'dictionary'.
'Script Editor' v. 1.9 does.
Example - drag 'iMovie's icon onto 'Script Editor' v. 2.0 and you
will see an 'Open Dictionary - Unable to read the dictionary of the
application or extension because it is not scriptable' alert box.
Drag the same 'iMovie's icon onto 'Script Editor' v. 1.9 and you will
be presented with its 'dictionary' opened, and the 'DoCommand' listed.
Sadly, only 'DoCommand string' is listed, nothing else.
There is a 'Script Editor' v. 2.0 workaround to its inability to
properly handle dragged on application's icons, to display their
'dictionary'.
01. Launch 'Script Editor' v. 2.0
02. Select 'Script Editor's 'Window, Library' menu item ['Command -
<shift> - L'].
03. Drag 'iMovie's icon onto the 'Library' window of 'Script Editor.
04. Double-click on 'iMovie' in the 'Library' window.
The rather sparse 'dictionary' for 'iMovie' will appear.
Naturally, if one where to drag an application's icon [such as
'Keynote'] onto the 'Library' window, double click on it, and nothing
results [no 'dictionary' window or even an alert box with a message]
- that application has no 'dictionary'.
To remove an application's name from the 'Library' list - click on it
once an then press the <delete> key.
