Did I receive that correctly? HTML email? On this list? Did I miss
something? Or is this a glitch?

Not a glitch. The new list software accepts it, and since I was sending an
ordered list of items, I sent it as HTML.

I have mail configured to display multipart mail in text only format, so I didn't even know that there was an HTML part until it was mentioned; sure enough, when i typed command-], I saw the HTML formatted version.
