I didn't say anything about them not being attachments. I said the "show up
as" attachments (rather than being processed specially). One can't really
equate "MIME part" with "Attachment" anyhow...consider Content-Disposition:
Inline. Those "show up as" attachments in mail programs which don't handle
them inline, but the people who exchange them don't think of them as
attachments.
If one looks at the source for a s/mime signed message which comes from this
list and originated in Mail.app, one finds two levels of MIME parts...the
inner level seems to come from Mail.app with one part being message and the
other being the signature part.
The message's outer level is properly given in the message headers. The
boundary strings for the two levels differ (as one might expect).
Whatever they are, the annoyance they cause to some list members doesn't
justify the number of messages about them that have appeared.
