Methinks wc will study only UNIX line ends. That may, or may not, be what is desired.

Are a trio of Applescripts - well not really but they use an AppleScript interface - that will change between UNIX, Apple Classic, and DOS line ends. As a byproduct they count occurrences of each.

Source is included.
