Are you just turning down the volume, or fading for the next song

the latter, in iTunes terminology (and commonly in other audio work), is a "crossfade".. i think the OP wanted "fade to silence".. doing a crossfade in AppleScript would be messy.. one could toggle the Crossfade pref through the GUI, then adjust the stop time of the current track, but it appears the stop time can't be changed while the track is playing
