On Sep 28, 2004, at 11:55 AM, I wrote:

When the current user is in an OD directory, and the home folder is hosted on an AFP server, the following error is thrown:
“Finder got an error: Can't get container of file "Users:username:Desktop:file"”

[ the POSIX path to the file in this case is:
/private/Network/Servers/server.domain.tld/Users/username/Desktop/ file ]

well, it's a known bug: <http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/panther/bugs.html> (a page that was actually in my Safari history...)

The work around provided on that page was to use Finder's "Connect to server..." mechanism to mount the volume, rather than by browsing through the Network item in the finder sidebar. This wouldn't seem to address the issue of auto-mounted network home folders, though... any advice?
