oops. forgot to set the AppleScript text items - add this to the first two line of the subroutine:

set oldDelims to AppleScript's text item delimiters
set AppleScript's text item delimiters to ":"

and add this to the last line of your code:

set AppleScript's text item delimiters to oldDelims
