Have a look at the -n option in curl. The idea is that you prepare a $HOME/.netrc file that contains usernames and passwords. Set permissions to read only for owner and nothing else.

I use it for ftp all the time. It may work for telnet too but the docs don't clearly say so.

It's also possible to script Terminal.app in such a way that a session remains up and connected between Applescript initiated requests directed to a named Terminal window.
