Well, it depends. TextEdit does treat CR and LF as peers, but not all applications do. Tex-Edit Plus respects what you put in the file, so, for instance, if you insert an LF you see no line break, and if you insert a return (CR), you do see one. Save the file and open it in vi and you get the reverse, where the LF gives a line break, and the CR appears as ^M in the text. But then Tex-Edit wouldn't qualify as an Aqua application, I suspect.
