So close in Tiger:
tell application "Finder" to find "stuff"
You get a "Search" window - but nothing in it :-(
But it's not all bad news as Spotlight's shell tools *do* work:
do shell script "mdfind stuff"
And you can grab the metadata too:
do shell script "mdls /photos/DSC_0008.jpg"
Interesting. Consult the man pages for more info.
