I know Jon's Commands for OS 9 installs a script-to-text coercion so try the OS X version; it may well install this coercion as well.

By coincidence, I was about to reply to this thread myself when I saw your message, has. I can confirm that the coercion is indeed available in Jon's Commands X - which can be downloaded from:

http://www.seanet.com/~jonpugh/

With Jon's Commands installed, it's possible to extract the text from a script file (compiled script, applet or droplet) with a statement such as:

--------------

set scriptText to (load script (choose file)) as string

--------------
