Different code paths, presumably. Coercing vs creating a new object specifier has always had some subtle differences in behaviour. BTW, the 'pathTxt as POSIX file' coercion is also buggy, though - touch wood - I don't think there's any problems with using 'POSIX file pathTxt'. All you can do is include an advisory warning folks that these coercions may be buggy and they might want to use an alternate approach where possible. And file the usual bug reports, of course.
