Note that my version works with funky characters (e.g. the ƒ mentioned in that entry). I achieved this by simply adding single-quotes to the path as I pass it to the Terminal.  I note that you fetch the "quoted form of" the posix path, and then don't do anything special to it on the way into the "do script" command.  I don't know what the subtleties are here, but you might take a look at adjusting when you do the "quoted" form to see if you can get the string in desired format over to the Terminal.

The "open ." tip is worth remembering when you want to go from Terminal to Finder :-)
