Ben Mackin's "Fax Center" does exactly that. Takes a PDF file, converts to a tiff file and invokes the efax command. Unfortunately its source is not available. And I guess it was written in objective C.

By examining the package contents, I guess he is using the "efix" command to handle the pdf files. "JoinPdf" is also there....

So answering your question:

do shell script efix blablabla... then do shell script efax blablabla...

Take a look at "man efax", hope it helps.
