in applescript, what is the standard way to download a file that shows the user a progress bar ?

I would say that there four kinds of users of AppleScript, progress bar-wise.
1 - those who never use a progress bar,
2 - those who use AppleScript Studio to make AppleScript-based nice applications,
3 - those who use Smile as their scripting environment,
4 - those who purchase 24U's products.

There are also those cool hackers who imagine refreshing workarounds for displaying a progress, such as having a window in TextEdit display a percentage, etc.
