...verifies that indeed ditto is the way to go! (I don't know why I wasn't
just doing the UNZIP with ditto instead of unzip! ;-)

That is correct. If I create the archive using zip, there are no __MACOSX
folders, as the RF's weren't copied in the first place to the archive.
