Actually, for Muslims and Jews, it's from Friday sundown to Saturday
sundown. Part of the answer can be found in the Spanish name for
Saturday: "Sabbado," meaning "Sabbath."
Because Jesus died on a Sunday, most Christian religions (but not all;
e.g., Seventh Day Adventists) switched their day of rest from Saturday
to Sunday.
English (Sunday) and German (Sontag) still use the barbarian name for
the seventh day (day of the sun / tag __ __ son).
Pagan, not barbarian. It's not the only day name like that; Wednesday,
for instance, is named after Wotan (or Odin), and Thursday is named
after Thor.
There is also another trouble: week number. Not every countries start
the Week #1 at the same 'date'.
Weeks aren't an enumerated list of names like months and days.
