Roger--
Thanks for your suggestion, but I'm not sure how to use it.
That link led to a page of file names with brief descriptions. I
picked "xpdf-tools-3.dmg" as it seemed to be the only one concerned
with converting from pdf to txt.
I downloaded it and double-clicked on the "package", which launched
the installer. I allowed it to install.
Now what? I cannot find any files resulting from the install. I'm
not sure what I was expecting -- maybe an application or an osax --
but nothing called "pdf" seems to have shown up.
I suppose it's a UNIX executable. You have to call it from Terminal,
or with "do shell script".
The next step should be to find its manual. Maybe you can type "man
xpdf" in Terminal, or if you know the name of a command (pdf2txt?)
you do "man pdf2txt".
