Yes it is interesting to find a comand to open the selection in TextEdit.

But Preview isn't scriptable, nor does it seem to implement a Select All command (it seems to be always dimmed). It also does not seem to implement the extend selection (shift-click) convention.

Have you figured out how to select text using AppleScript commands to Preview?
